February 9, 2009, 11:59 AM EST - OK, so you've bought a PC or a Mac and you have figured out how to send an email - Congratulations!

Now, let's take it to the next level.

Some of my busy friends are trying to publicize their business's and I offered to help so I decided we should form a Computer Club and here we are.

First, stop forwarding those chain emails with a compelling reason to forward it to all your friends! Most of them are scams and YOU should go to www.snopes.com and check them out BEFORE you infect all your friends and family with some kind of virus.

One of the first rules of safe-computing was that you should NEVER open an email from someone that you don't know and today it's even worse. Merely clicking on a website can install a virus on your computer!

There are a couple of things that you can do to check out websites before you enter them and the easiest one is to cut and paste the link for the website into the Google search box and look at the results page. Try this.

Copy jimmymorse.com

And paste it here

Look at the results page...

If you ever see "THIS SITE MAY HARM YOUR COMPUTER," directy under JimmyMorse.com, (OR ANY OTHER SITE) do not try to access the site and if it's my site, NOTIFY me ASAP.

Now copy and paste codinghorror.com into the Goodle search box
and if there is no warning notice under the title, READ it.

Here is the direct link
www.codinghorror.com

Do the same with usenix.org and here is the direct link
www.usenix.org

This might be a good time to get a FREE Spyware scan

Years ago I had a Netzero account and it is still a great bargain if you are on a dial-up modem

Another service that I'm currently using on another website is www.GoDaddy.com
