Cambridge Man Arraigned On Murder Charge For Medford Homicide
MEDFORD- A Cambridge man has been arraigned on a charge of murder in connection with the death of a Weymouth man, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.
Christopher Toppi, 28, of Cambridge, was arraigned today in Somerville District Court on one count of murder. Somerville District Court Judge Neil Walker, held the defendant without bail.
His next court date is September 20 for a probable cause hearing.
“We allege that the defendant beat the victim to death,” District Attorney Leone said. “This is another tragic example of a defendant resorting to violence, causing lasting and tragic circumstances for the victim and his loved ones.”
According to authorities, at approximately 3:28 am, police responded to 382 Salem Street for reports of a male who was unresponsive. Upon arrival,EMS personnel located the victim, Brian Fahy, 28, who was bleeding from his head and nose. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators allege that the defendant encountered the victim in the residence at 382 Salem Street. It is alleged the defendant initiated an altercation with the victim, and then beat him to death.
An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (ME) determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head and the manner of death homicide.
Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for the defendant on Saturday afternoon. Toppi turned himself into the Medford police that evening.
The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Nicole Allain. The victim witness advocate is Patrice Provitola. This case was investigated by Medford police and State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
