My oil company delivered 226.3 gallons of home heating oil yesterday and the market price on the ticket was $2.65 for a total of $599.70. That hurts.
But because I belong to a non-profit group that only costs me $15 a year, I will only have to pay $499.90 for a savings of $99.80 which covers my Water and Sewer increase of $90.34 !
Many years ago I joined an oil-buying collaborative called the Boston Oil Consumers Alliance (BOCA) which is a non-profit company that purchases oil in quantity and passes the savings on to its members.
Since then, it has expanded and changed its name to
Mass Energy.
The price to join is $15 per year for a Basic Membership, $5 if you are unemployed or retired and 0 if you are on Fuel Assistance.
They will choose an oil company for you and they chose Faulkner Brothers out of Somerville for me and I am totally pleased with them.
