Bocelli's in South Medford - My Favorite Italian Restaurant!
Let's take a walk down Main Street. From my house on Metcalf Street I'm going to walk down Walnut Street, down South Street Court and stop at the locks on the Cradock Bridge. I didn't feel like lugging my fishing rod around so I have my drop line and triple hook that I bought at the Army and Navy store in the square.
I'm going to snag some herring and sell them to Mr. Federico on Walnut
Street for his tomato garden. I can't believe that I am getting paid
ten cents a fish for something that I enjoy so much and his garden
tomatoes are among the best that I have ever eaten. He is still
growing them as of this year.
Across the street on the even side of Main Street is Martignetti Liquor's and Aarow Auto School.

Heading south on Main Street is a dining car called Carroll's Diner and behind it is a large field and the best place to catch Praying Mantis's. If you ever wanted to see a dinosaur, catch one of these babies.
Davidson Chevrolet is on the corner of Emerson and the Dairy Queen is opposite Thomas St. Pinky's Pizza is now on the corner of Summer Street and I remember when it was My Market owned by the Genovese Family and if you go back far enough, it used to be the Victory Market and Ernie used to run it.
On the other corner of Summer St was the old green building owned by Jim Marino of Winchester. I rented it out for years and I used it for my Campaign Headquarters when I ran for Mayor of Medford in 1995.
The Royall House is on the corner of George St and the Oakes House is on Sylvia st.
At the top of the hill between Stearns Ave. and Stanley Ave., Al Sacco used to run the Morse News Agency and it was my first job at the age of 11. No one could count coins faster than Al and he used the two-finger method. Sometimes he accidentally slid three coins instead of two :)
If you ever see Frankie Martorano, aka, the Iron Messiah, ask him about those good old days when all us kids would finish our Saturday paper routes and go bowling at Holiday Lanes (now the Super Stop & Shop on Riverside Ave) or later on in life, shoot some pool at Joe Zag's (now TV3 Medford on 5 High St).
Heading south and right next to Hancock Street was the original Alexander's Market and when I was six years old I used to go in there and buy ice-cream. Alex used to call me Jamesle and I've always enjoyed seeing and talking to his son Paul. They moved across the street years ago but have kept the name.
The Dello Russo Funeral Home is still there but Ernie Molinari's Esso is now a Prime. Bob's Food Store is the same, Depasquale's is Boccelli's, the Lincoln Junior High School is being converted into condo's, and Lacascia's is the same. Tufts Pool has moved from the end of the park, Lido's Guitar studio on Morton Ave is gone and the old fire station has relocated. The laundrymat on Main and Dexter has stood the test of time.
And if you travel up Medford St. to Magoun Square, Mahoney's Lounge is the Tavern on the Hill.
