This clips starts out with a 21 yo future geek with a 32" waist, a lot of hair and his 1970 Plymouth Duster driving up Canal St. with one hand on the wheel and one hand holding the camera.
After you go over the tracks on Canal St., notice the Corvette in West Medford Square. You might have to slow-mo this one to see all the sights.
I picked out Brigham's, the Chamber of Commerce, some kind of Meat Market, the Depositor's Trust Company, Grippo Shoe Repair,
Medford Jewelers,F. W. Woolworth, Crosby Jewelers, Medford Travel Service (now Mystic Valley Travel), Papa Gino's, and the Discount Store.
How about Sinclair Gas at the bus stop at River St. and the ice machine?
Then there's Ruth's, Thom McAn, Liggett-Rexall, the Medford Cinema with "Wild Country," playing, and Vita Insurance (in his old location).
You will see a police officer in the Square using a call box and he even talked to us young people! Also, notice that Salem St. and Riverside Ave. were open at the time. I say we open it again! How about the long hair and the cars?
If you've ever ordered a Domino's Pizza, you've probably had Tommy Mason as your driver..see him? How about Mike Tarallo, Lorraine Seracola, Bobby Covino and Darryl Mucci?
There's Bargains Unlimited, Rudermans's Furniture, Beneficial Loans, Lee Elliots Tuxedo, Baskin-Robbins and the J & A Cigar Store where they sold Playboy and Penthouse. Even back then, Medford was not exempt from the Constitution!
I once saw a girl standing in front of me in Papa Gino's that had the nicest long, blonde hair that I had ever seen in my life. I pulled it. Three kids and eight grandkids kids later....it was Faith. I'll never do that again.
This is the hustle and bustle kind of a square that I grew up in. I'd like to see it get there again!
