Low candidate turnout leaves few choices in November

6/17/2009 6:02:00 AM - For the first time since at least 1919, Somerville will not be holding a primary for its upcoming city elections in November. Somerville News

Election 2009 has begun and the positions for Mayor, City Council and School Committee are on the ballot.

There are no challengers for the Mayor's race yet but there are challengers for both the City Council and the School Committee.

The Mayor and City Council have had some discussions on canceling the Primary Election as a cost-saving measure.

The first video of the Medford MA 2009 election season begins with the kickoff fundraiser for City Councilor Michael Marks. It was a great time with great food supplied by the award winning May's Cafe of South Medford.

This was a Who's Who of familiar Medford faces including our very own Mayor Michael McGlynn and State Rep. Paul Donato.

NEW PAGE: The Early Years

In 1986, five years before the birth of the World Wide Web in 1991, I was an online Editor for Boston CitiNet, the largest Videotex service (also known as a Bulletin Board Service or BBS) on the East Coast. In these early days of telecommunications we were the Beta Testers for Packet Switching and many of us would become Beta Testers for America Online.
